Does Liam Nolan Still Have Sights on ONE Championship Title? Reflects on His Mindset After Latest Injury
It takes more than an injury to knock a champ off track and Liam Nolan is no different. Despite a broken hand sustained during his bout versus Nauzet Trujillo in February, the fighter from Britain remains steadfast on his mission to wear a world belt on ONE Championship... it just might take a little longer.
"I started the year, I said I really wanted to fight for the world title this year," he told us.
"I fought in January against a tough Russian guy and then they signed me up against the Spanish guy only 5 weeks later..."
ONE Championship is known for its exciting and scrappy Muay Thai bouts, however the small gloves can take their toll...
"[it's] crazy at that level with 4 ounce gloves...not many people do it, in fact no one does it, but I did it cause I wanted to get the rounds in," Liam continued saying taking both fights might have backfired on him.
Liam sustained a broken hand during his fight against Nauzet Trujillo in the first round which he told us "made him hesitant to throw shots" during the remainder of the fight.
When asked if he thinks the broken hand will hold him back from achieving his goal this year, he admits "it might do, to be fair..."
But Liam remains positive telling us "you gotta have purpose in life, right? For me I wanna be world champion, and honestly after that loss I still wanna get it and recover this hand."
What keeps him going? "It's been my dream since I was kid," he said.
But, that's not all he shared. The reigning WBC Muay Thai World Middleweight Champion and ONE Championship contender talked to us about his fighting style, where the name "Lethal" came from, his thoughts on his last fight. Plus, he offered solid advice for aspiring competitors.
